Many foreign tourists enjoyed what Thailand has to offer and at the same time cynical if going to Thailand during the COVID-19 pandemic was worth the risk. However, according to a survey performed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, international visitors have overall positive feedback in Thailand. Indeed, according to the study released on December 24, the average ranking on 14 key factors increased compared to the survey conducted in 2020.

The survey named “Attitudes and Satisfaction of Thai and Foreign Tourists Who Travel in Thailand” was conducted on 2,000 foreign tourists through interviews throughout the last 6 months of 2021 in 10 tourism areas. The survey results were announced by the Deputy Permanent Secretary.

The ministry analyzed 14 criteria to assess tourist satisfaction and after analyzing the figures, the ministry discovered that tourists gave the country an 87.7% satisfaction grade.  Thailand was scored at 84.9% satisfied in a previous 2020 study.

Survey 14 categories

The latest survey showed the overall satisfaction of foreign tourists with their vacation in Thailand and revealed their top 3 best and 3 least favorite activities based on satisfaction ratings. The top 3 categories are as follows:

  1. 91.4% – Thai People – Foreign tourists really love the kindness and friendliness of Thai locals.
  2. 90.8% – Health Care Services – Foreign tourists found the country’s healthcare offerings are affordable and satisfactory.
  3. 90.3%– Accommodation services – Hotels are reasonably priced, welcoming, and convenient. Foreign tourists said that the SHA and SHA+ criteria were also satisfactory.

The bottom three categories are:

  1.  The Thailand Tourism Directory Website – Many travelers were unaware or didn’t know the website.
  2. Eco-tourism — Tourists discovered that eco-tourism destinations featured the dreaded dual price structure for residents and foreigners, as well as restroom concerns.
  3. Sea/beach attractions — While Thailand is famous for its beaches, the pandemic forced many of them to close and visitors complained about unsanitary conditions and filthy restrooms on the beaches that remained open.
