The Thai government will allow foreign tourists to enter the country even they test positive for COVID-19.  The Thai cabinet has approved the plan to allow foreign tourists that are COVID positive to enter the country and remove COVID-19 from the list of foreign forbidden diseases.

According to spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek, the new initiative will take effect once it is published in the Royal Gazette.  However, foreign tourists that will show severe leprosy, tuberculosis, elephantiasis, syphilis, and abusive drug-related sickness are still prohibited from entering the Kingdom.

According to spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri, since January, over 5 million travelers have visited Thailand.  One million of these numbers have visited from September 1 to 20. Earlier this year, the Thai government set a goal of at least 10 million foreign travelers.  However, it remains unclear whether this goal will be accomplished by end of 2022.

Government Spokesperson Traisulee Traisornkul said that the government allows the temporary extension of both visa-on-arrival and visa-exemption stays.

From October 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023, foreign travelers visiting Thailand with the said visas are eligible for the following stays:

Visa on Arrival extension for up to 30 days. Visas on arrival are available to passport holders from 19 countries.

Visa-free stays which are given to tourists from 64 countries that have joint agreements with Thailand will be extended from 30 days to 45 days.
