Matthew Barclay, the Australian Consul-General in Phuket, was delighted to learn from his meeting with Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew at Provincial Hall that Australians visiting Phuket have reached 90% of pre-pandemic levels.

They discussed the island province’s initiatives to safely welcome Australian and international tourists and create economic opportunities for the future.

Additionally, Matthew was keen to learn about Phuket’s efforts in its candidacy for the Specialised Expo in 2027/28, which could potentially be the first event of its type in ASEAN.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand reported that approximately 772,000 Australians visited Thailand in 2019 and had an average stay of 13.29 days, contributing approximately THB 55 billion baht to Thailand’s economy.

Meanwhile, China Airlines is pleased to announce the resumption of non-stop flights between Chiang Mai and Taiwan. The 180-seat Airbus A321neo will service the 4-hour route 4 days a week every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. This route brings the total number of round-trip flights between Taiwan and Thailand to 27 per week, including 18 weekly flights on the Taipei-Bangkok route and 5 weekly flights on the Kaohsiung-Bangkok route.

AirAsia and EVA Air also offer services on the same route.

The airline is hoping that the new route will be beneficial for both business and tourist travelers who are looking to travel between the 2 cities.

Thailand’s VietJet will be launching direct flights between Chiang Mai and Osaka in Japan in February 2023.
