Thai Skies to Buzz with Over 14,000 Flights for Songkran

According to the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (Aerothai), Thailand will accommodate 14,180 international and domestic flights during Songkran, starting April 11 until April 17. This signifies a 66% rise in flights as opposed to the same time frame in the previous year.

Aerothai’s President, Nopposit Chakrapitak, announced yesterday that there would be an average of 2,026 flights daily. The president stated that Thailand’s aviation industry is progressing positively, with an average of 2,000 flights daily, which will increase to 2,026 daily over the Thai New Year holidays.

Despite Songkran celebrations, flight frequency remains below pre-pandemic levels, when Aerothai provided air traffic services for up to 3,000 international and domestic flights daily.

Aerothai is more than prepared to manage the flight surge during the Songkran Festival and has made countless provisions to avoid delays and ensure a seamless operation.

According to the Kasikorn Research Centre, 5 million individuals are projected to travel during the holidays, generating 23 billion baht in revenue.

This week, 44.7% of Bangkok locals intend to travel to their hometowns or other locations, according to the survey.

Airports of Thailand (AOT) estimates that 2.37 million passengers will pass through its six airports during the holiday season, an increase of 137.5% from the previous year. AOT anticipates approximately 1.37 million international travelers and another million domestic travelers.

During Songkran, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) added ten additional trains to the northern and northeastern routes to accommodate an additional 8,000 passengers.

The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) will waive toll fees on the Burapha Withi Expressway (Bang Na – Chon Buri) and Kanchanaphisek Road (Bang Phli – Pak Kret) from April 13-18 in preparation for heavy holiday traffic.

Koh Larn in Pattaya is already bustling with tourists for Songkran, with ferries transporting 13,400 Thai and foreign visitors on Saturday alone.
