As restrictions loosen and the country attempts to reopen on November 1, Bangkok is working hard to prepare for the reopening and welcome foreign tourists back to the city. Governor Aswin Kwanmuang says he wants to stay informed of official statements when they are published in the Royal Gazette.

Thailand’s capital is establishing what is known as swab hubs in order to quickly test large numbers of foreign tourist arrivals. Officials at City Hall agree with the Governor that the city would adhere to the same processes and restrictions as the government officials approve.

Curfews will be reduced or eliminated in accordance with national regulations. Bangkok, which has the highest infection rate in the country, will make a point of attempting to contain the transmission of COVID-19 from residents to foreign tourists via the establishment of screening stations around the city.

Unlike Phuket’s hotel-based screening program, Bangkok intends to use these swab hubs for mass testing of tourists and then undergo quarantine until the results of the RT-PCR testing are out. Along with ongoing immunization and mass testing of residents is anticipated to keep new COVID-19 cases under control and enable the city to accomplish its objective of carefully reopening nightlife, entertainment facilities, bars, pubs, and nightclubs on December 1.

The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s main goal is to limit local transmission to vulnerable populations and increase the public’s confidence in living safely despite the ongoing pandemic. Additionally, they state that the new Thailand Plus app will manage contract tracing and replacing the certificate of entry. This will reduce the time required for a fully vaccinated individual to go to Thailand from three to six days to only one to three days.
