Cha-am Restaurants Allowed To Sell Alcoholic Drinks

While tourist destinations in Thailand struggle to convince officials to lift the alcohol ban, Cha-am will be the next tourism pilot region permitted to sell alcoholic drinks. The Provincial Communicable Disease Committee in Phetchaburi is ready to conduct a trial permitting restaurants and businesses to sell alcohol until 10 p.m.

The trial will run from December 1 to December 15 and then evaluate if it is possible for an extension. The municipality reported 0 cases of Covid-19 infections since the country’s major tourism reopening on November 1, the province’s Deputy Governor revealed Monday during a Provincial Public Health Committee meeting.

With this accomplishment, the committee decided that it was safe to let alcoholic drinks be served and consumed in SHA+ certified restaurants while following COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Provincial officials will closely monitor any new COVID-19 cases in Cha-am starting December 1, when drinking is permitted and December 15, where they will determine if lifting the alcohol ban is a success or failure. Approved establishments will be permitted to offer beverages till 10 p.m. throughout that time period.

The Deputy Governor of Phetchaburi thanked locals for cooperating to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“On behalf of Phetchaburi provincial office, I would like to thank all residents who had been well cooperating with the government’s rules and instructions, resulting in a steadily declining number of cases and the regulation relaxation in Cha-am. The area has become infection-free and many activities almost returned to normal now.”
