The SRT or State Railway of Thailand invites you to experience the “floating train” from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Station to the country’s largest reservoir, Pa Sak Jolasid Dam located in Lop Buri province.

Starting November 5, the rot fai loi nam (water train) will operate every Saturday and Sunday for 3 months. The train will depart Bangkok at 6 am and stop at Samsen Station, Bang Sue Junction, Bang Khen, Lak Si, Don Mueang, Rangsit, Saraburi, Ayutthaya, and Kaeng Khoi Junction.

While the train stays for 20 minutes in the center of the dam, tourists may enjoy the view and take photographs. After that, the train’s next stop will be at the Khok Salung station, where travelers may purchase local OTOP or One Tambon One Product goods.

At 10:35 am, the train will arrive at the dam’s station. Tourists can eat a local lunch, see the dam, or take a 70-baht van ride to Ban Kluay & Kai Cafe’s sunflower and fern gardens.

The Bangkok-bound train will depart at 3:30 p.m. and arrive at Hua Lamphong station at 6:50 p.m.

Bangkok to Pa Sak Jolasid round-trip tickets is priced at THB 560 baht in an air-conditioned carriage while THB 330 baht for a non-air-conditioned carriage.

Tickets can be purchased at the counter at any train station or via the D-Ticket system.

Ekkarat Sri-arayanphong, SRT director of public relations, said that the yearly floating train program would assist in developing post-pandemic tourism.

This winter, train enthusiasts may also be interested in traveling from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi, Hua Hin, or Lop Buri. The program was supposed to launch to the public last month. However, SRT has postponed the commercial launch of the train till the end of the year.
