Maya Bay Reopening Set In January 2022

The popular beach shown in the film “The Beach” is scheduled to reopen early next year. For a decade, the renowned natural enclave of limestone karsts and turquoise waters. Maya Bay drew up to 6,000 tourists daily. Even local marine national park authorities saw that tourists love Maya Bay.

Maya Bay is set to reopen to visitors on January 1, 2022. This information was provided by the Department of National Parks. The opening will attract more travelers who would want to experience one of the world’s most popular beaches without the enormous traffic that forced it to shut in June 2018.

The 3-year hiatus has been spent replanting coral, revegetating the rear of the beach, and constructing some protected pathways.

Koh Phi Phi Ley is one of Koh Phi Phi’s islands. Although it is technically part of Krabi province, the majority of tourists travel via speedboat from Phuket for a variety of day tours. The bigger Koh Phi Phi Don is a sun and snorkel backpacker destination that is well-known for its festivities and magnificent landscape.

However, Phi Phi Don’s smaller and more picturesque sister has drawn in such a large number of day-trippers and social media.

Following “The Beach” movie, Maya Bay became a Mecca for tourists looking for that beach and people continued to pour in. Hundreds of visitors riding in long-tail boats would dock off the coastlines each day, transporting between 5,000 and 6,000 passengers and destroying the environment. Anchors from yachts almost entirely ruined the coral in the Bay.

Although COVID-19 had nothing to do with the Bay’s closure, it is simply closed indefinitely, providing Maya Bay’s ecology more time to recover prior to reopening. However, new regulations and guidelines will significantly affect the travel experience at Maya Bay.

Speedboats are now prohibited from entering the bay. A pier at the island’s rear will serve as the drop-off area, with passengers disembarking and walking along protected boardwalks around the back of the beach.

Visiting time will be limited to 1 hour, with a maximum of 8 boats permitted to tie up at the pier at any one time. Daily travels will run between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Today, piers are not yet ready for boats, and there is now a desperate rush to finish everything before the scheduled reopening on January 1.

While the goal is to limit visits to less than 2,000 travelers per day, the domestic tourism sector will put a lot of effort to push Maya Bay to reopen and start to welcome more tourists. There are still a large number of idle boats and personnel in Phuket and Krabi, and they will encourage officials to ease restrictions.
