TAT Highlights Thailand’s Strong Anti-Smoking Laws

The Tourism Authority of Thailand reminds foreign tourists of Thailand’s “no smoking” restrictions in public spaces in accordance with the country’s Tobacco Control Law, whose goal is to maintain safe and smoke-free surroundings.

Foreigners who didn’t know about the country’s “no smoking” law have recently been fined or taken into custody. The Thai government implemented the no smoking ban in 2014 because of health concerns and the belief that these kinds of devices influence young people to start smoking.

Thus, travelers are instructed not to carry vape-related products such as e-cigarettes and any products or equipment related to the device, such as vape juice used in the device.

Similarly, travel agencies and tour operators promoting the kingdom as a tourist destination should inform their customers about the restriction on e-cigarettes, electronic shisha smoking.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports coordinate with travel agencies and operators to encourage travelers to avoid smoking in restricted areas, including airports, sports facilities, and tourist destinations nationwide. The law must be strictly complied with by all tourists traveling with guided tour groups.

Airports across the country have been declared no-smoking areas and all smoking rooms within the terminal have been closed.

According to Airports of Thailand, the decision to prohibit smoking areas in airports is consistent with the country’s Tobacco Control Act of 2017.
