The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is confident that the tourism sector in the country will continue to improve as flight capacity increases.

Yuthasak Supasorn, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand said “We are delighted to announce that COVID-19 has ended.”

According to him, the confidence is supported by the downgrade of COVID-19 to an endemic this month.

Mr. Yuthasak said that the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is attempting to achieve the government’s target of generating 1.5 trillion Baht in income from 10 million foreign and local tourists.

TAT has been working closely with airline companies since July to raise flight capacity.

According to CAAT or the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, the typical airline seat capacity from October to March of next year is expected to grow by 74.2% to 573,538 seats every week.

Mr. Yuthasak said, “We expect the incremental increase of seats would gradually help cut airfare.”

After boosting seat capacity, TAT will now collaborate with airlines to guarantee that at least 80% of seats are filled.

Mr. Yuthasak said that when flights increase during the peak season, TAT focuses on the areas most impacted by high gas costs, such as Europe.

He added that the agency wants to attract tourists who want to escape winter and the high cost of living.

Mr. Yuthasak said that TAT’s “Always Warm” campaign focuses on warm hospitality, a warm heart, and a warm welcome after the pandemic.

To urge tourists to spend more in the country, TAT wants to implement a plan to expand the average length of stay by extending tourist visas from 30 to 45 days and using the visa-on-arrival extension from 15 to 30 days.

He added that the average stay for long-haul tourists is 14 days, while 7 days for short-haul tourists.

TAT plans to boost the average spending per tourist from 70,000 Baht to 75,000-80,000 Baht.
