Tourism is, without doubt, the number 1 reason why people go to Thailand in the first place. Thailand is very friendly towards its foreign visitors, and is one of the few places in the world where you can apply for a tourist visa only at the moment of your arrival in the country.
So, what makes Thailand a top choice for tourists? There are many reasons, of course, and it all depends on the sensibilities and the curiosities of each individual visitor. However, all people who have been to Thailand will agree that Thailand’s cities have the most vibrant nightlife scene in Southeast Asia… or even the world.
Let’s take a look at what Thailand has to offer. Even if you’re not a party person, you’d certainly want to see what great things Thai cities make available to everyone – Thai or foreigner – once the sun sets down.
Take note, these are not your usual “sit down in a table and have a bucket of beer” stuff. These are full blown parties guaranteed to be unforgettable.
Foam Parties
Fancy a night at the pool with a rowdy crowd spurred on by house music played by a very talented DJ? You should make it a point to try at least one foam party, especially if you’re in Phuket.
Foam parties are simply a combination of pool party and a bubble bath. There are bubble machines spreading foam all around, so you should be ready to get wet and wild. Often times, these parties are held in a hotel’s pool area, so you can take a dip and take some of that foam off you while enjoying a bottle of your favorite beer, or a shot of two of your favorite drink.
Hotel management makes sure everyone’s safe during these parties, as nobody wants to get a fun-filled event go wrong.
Full Moon Party
In Buddhism, the full moon is considered a symbol of enlightenment and truth. Buddhist texts point to the full moon as an illumination of our true nature, which we naturally obscure the way the clouds hide the moon.
When the moon is full and bright, however, it shows us who we are… and we are a fun loving people, regardless of our race or nationality. That’s why, whether you’re in Thailand with a work visa or with a tourist visa, it’s important to take part of these full moon parties every once in a while.
You don’t even have to hurry, because full moon parties are held once every month. Every year, the schedule changes according to the actual progress of the Moon or the Buddhist calendar. Ask around, or check online for the actual dates for this year.
Just like the full moon, these parties are bright and loud. People come in wearing neon clothing, all the more to be visible throughout the night, and all are ready to party hard from dusk till dawn… literally.
Night Markets
If you’re not in the mood for a full blown party but still would like to get out at night, you could head over to the Night Markets as well.
Each city in Thailand has a Night Market, in which you can sample affordable street food (and some cheap booze as well) and browse through a collection of inexpensive trinkets. You can find almost everything in the Night Markets – from designer bags, arts and crafts for souvenirs, fashion accessories, beachwear, and many others.
Playing a game of golf is indeed worthy of the Elite, but golf is not the only form of leisure Thailand has to offer. When the Sun sets, you’ll be surprised at what treats await you as a visitor of the Kingdom.
