The colorful and exciting Bun Luang and Phi Ta Khon Festival, commonly known as the Ghost Festival, will be held in the Dan Sai district of the Northeastern province of Loei from 1 to 3 July 2022.
This one-of-a-kind annual event is popular in which locals wear distinctive and brightly colored masks and headgear to participate. The parade of dressed villagers around the town is the highlight of the celebration.
In addition, the 3-day celebration features other activities such as traditional rites and Buddhist ceremonies at the Phon-Chai temple.
On the opening day of this year’s schedule (Friday, 1 July), the event includes food offerings to monks at the temple, a spirits-calling ritual, a cultural celebration, and stage performances.
On day 2 of the festival, in front of the Dan Sai District Office, the formal opening ceremony will be accompanied by a summoning of spirits, the grand parade, the creation of merit, and the launching of bamboo rockets.
On the last day of the festival (Sunday, 3 July), there will be 13 consecutive Buddhist sermons at Phon-Chai Temple, as well as a parade of successive Buddhist sermons from all villages in the Dan Sai District.
